Charif Megarbane is Habibi Funk’s first contemporary signing, which is a thrill! There’ll be a new LP (which sounds ace) called ‘Marzipan’ released on 11th August 2023.
You’ll know Habibi Funk’s incredible output with an insanely high hit-rate of compilations of Middle Eastern and North African music – seriously, there’s no duffers in the catalogue, so this is going to be hot stuff.
Charif is from Beirut and a multi-instrumental, and also known as the man behind prolific Cosmic Analog Ensemble. Regarding his creative process, Megarbane says: “It’s a very spontaneous, playful, and diary-like approach and workflow…I trust my instinct because instinct is based on experience.”
The LP is a melding of Lebanese and Mediterrean music and you can hear some below. We like what we hear from this and we’re sure the vinyl copies of this will fly out, so keep an eye out for it down the local record shop and online when the time comes.
