Glastonbury has form for big bands playing secret sets. We don’t know why. Tradition probably. A bit of fun, for the kiddies. Anyway, there’s a large rumour doing the rounds that Pulp will be performing.
So what’s the basis behind this muttering? Well, there’s a band called The ChurnUps on the Pyramid Stage who are on before the Arctic Monkeys, and such a prestigious slot going to an unknown band? Seems unlikely doesn’t it?
A Sheffield connection, a reformed band already match fit, and a legendary Glastonbury slot behind them? Could be! Pulp also have a Glastonbury shaped hole in their current tour. And if you’re a fan of wordplay, churning something up into a pulp? Tenuous, but that’s the best we’ve got for you currently. Don’t moan. If you’re there this weekend, ignore this ‘evidence’ and miss them, you’ve only yourselves to blame.
To put a dampener on it, drummer Nick Banks says: “Though it’s very tempting to tease you lot again. I know nothing of the ‘ChurnUps’ band. Ok?”
We’re not convinced. He’s just being coy.
Anyway, if you’re down at Worthy Farm, follow the account @Secretglasto and put notifications on. They’ll be the ones who notify everyone of suspected performances a few hours before they start, and they’ve got a good track record of guessing who the secret shows at the festival are (and they happen to think this slot is Pulp too).
