MORE UNEARTHED STEELY DAN

By now, you’re probably aware of the unearthed and lost track ‘The Second Arrangement‘ by Gaucho-era Steely Dan seeing the light of day. This new bit of news isn’t quite that level, but it’s still fun stuff!

A performance of ‘Reelin’ In The Years’ from the Midnight Special has turned up online and finds the band in fine, fine form.

Watch and note how Fagen’s hand trembles – possibly a bit of nerves from the great man appearing on television.

While we’re here, you can also watch a dynamite version of ‘Showbiz Kids’ which is still so brilliant, in part for mentioning their own merch in it, and the infamous line which was sampled by the Super Furry Animals.

This is truly wonderful and they sound hot on this take.

All of this, and an announcement that they’ll be playing some shows with their old foes the Eagles, has seen Steely Dan circles going into overdrive.

Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker were very protective over their music and there’s an idea that no Steely Dan tracks appear accidentally – so does this mean we’re in for some kind of anthology release of new bits and rare bits?

We’d sure love to have ‘The Second Arrangement’ on vinyl, if anyone from Fagen’s camp is reading (and seriously, ‘Kamakiriad’ reissue on LP wouldn’t go amiss while you’re at it).

It’s great to see some action in the Dan backcat, so here’s hoping!
