RYAN LESLIE BACK WITH THE STUDIO VIDS

When Ryan Leslie is on form, he’s hard to beat. From ‘Diamond Girl’ to ‘I-R-I-N-A’, to ‘You’re Not My Girl’ and ‘Addiction’, R-Les was serving up bangers that were big, but should’ve been made even bigger. His production work with other artists was hot stuff too, with the mega ‘Long Way 2 Go’ with Cassie, Fabolous’ ‘You Be Killin’ ‘Em’, and more.

However, Leslie went away for a bit, messing around with something called the Super Phone, which was probably super lucrative and clever, but it wasn’t something we could dance to, so we weren’t arsed. And after his initial run of R&B futuristic bops, he went trap, and it wasn’t quite as good. See, Ryan Leslie made his name with a deftness of touch in the studio, jumping on all the instruments in really fun (and at the time, forward thinking) vlogs.

Then it all got incredibly grandiose and serious which obviously, fine, do whatever you like, but we wanted his soulful brand of sophisticated R&B the most, and we think most of his fans did too.

Great news then, is that he’s gone back to doing what we all loved in the first place, playing all the instruments in the studio and being that brand of goofy serious that made him so charming way back when. The track, ‘Falling Hard’, isn’t an instant classic, but you can bet that if he’s got a couple of age-appropriate bangers up his sleeve, we’ll welcome it with open arms.
