Good news Devo fans! You will soon be able to buy a fancy vinyl package of your fave art-punk boneheads, and it’s called ‘Art Devo 1973-1977’ and will be a 3xLP set, comprised of early stuff, rare stuff, previously unreleased stuff – one for the completists and nerds. Nice.

It’s out April 19th and the band say the tracks “represent Devo in our most pure art form.”

The label putting it out – Futurismo – say that it’s compiled of “almost completely unheard and unreleased material, this collection draws purely from that integral early history, garnered from unearthed basement recordings, original demo tapes, unfinished montages and rare live audio, all taken from the bands personal archive.”

The sleeve and the vinyl itself looks real nice and a lot of love has clearly gone into the project, which is always really nice to see. Too often these things feel a bit slung out, willy nilly, but not this. There’ll be posters, liner notes and loads of fun stuff. One of the records is in ‘rubber gloves translucent’ colour, whatever that means. We like it though.

Oh, and people of a certain age who still collect CDs – it’ll be available to you too, don’t worry. Here’s the tracklisting, for people who like reading song titles in isolation from the music.
