It’s a baroque pop gem of a song is ‘Kiss From A Rose’ by Seal. What’s remarkable is that he wrote the song in 1987 and hung onto it until everything was just right to release it on… well… the Neverending Story III soundtrack. And then the Batman Forever soundtrack. Initially, Seal wasn’t too keen on it until Trevor Horn got his paws on it and, together, a classic was born!
Well, there’s celebrations afoot as there’s a 30th anniv reissue of ‘Seal’ due and ahead of it, we can hear an alternative version of ‘Kiss From A Rose’ which, if we’re being honestly, isn’t vastly different from the version you know and love, but it’s still fun to listen to it, so if you’re keen to get going, it’s embedded below.
The anniversary will see Rhino releasing a deluxe version that’s all tarted up and gorgeous, with unreleased recordings and all that good stuff. There’ll be a 2xLP version for you vinyl lovers, and HMV will have a ‘milky white’ pressing if that tickles your pickle. It’ll be out June 14th.
The album is available for pre-order / pre-save here.
