THE JOY OF ‘THE NEW DANCE SHOW’

There’s few greater joys than seeing working class people dance en masse. Whether you’re amongst it or simply viewing it, hot dance music and people busting out while wearing their best clothes is wholesome good, and we’ve been going down a rabbit hole of clips from Detroit TV show ‘The New Dance Show’.

It ran on WGPR-TV 62 and features some tuff electro and techno, and was basically Soul Train for the future heads. It started off in ’88 and featured some of the pioneers of techno, and it’s great to watch, laugh along with, and just generally vibe with the kids in the videos who must be parents and grand-parents by now – so imagine for a second, you’ve stumbled across these clips and you see grandma in her heels and hoops, gyrating like an absolute champ to some Juan Atkins or something!

Pure joy. We’ll start you off with a clip we’re currently enjoying and you go to YouTube, tap in ‘The New Dance Show’ and do the rest. You won’t be disappointed.
