One of the greatest DJs who ever lived has sadly left us after a battle with some terrible illness.
nfluential Chicago producer and musician DJ Funk has died, aged 54.
One of Chicago’s own, Charles Chambers was an innovator who was one of the main shakers in bringing ghetto house to the world and destroyed countless dancefloors with his inventive, and sometimes savage sets.
A huge influence on the whole of house, not least Daft Punk who namechecked him on ‘Homework’, Funk released the massive ‘Work Dat Body’, ‘Pump It’, and more.
DJ Funk, when talking about his eventual demise, said: “I really don’t want a funeral. I’d like to have a party so people remember all the good times and aren’t sad. Then at the afterparty there’ll be a lot of booty shaking with all my music played.”
Something big is being planned in Chicago, no question. For the rest of us who live elsewhere, press play on this legendary tape from Funk and rattle the windows with it.
Go easy, DJ Funk.
