It might feel a bit on the nose, what with her surname being ‘Haha’, but Gelli Haha wants to remind you that, despite all the ills of the world, you’re still allowed to have fun, dance in your underpants at home, and that giddy pop dance music is still on the menu.

Now, it’s not quite ‘Evacuate The Dancefloor’ by Cascada, but it does get the endorphins going and moves your feet for you, determined to pull you out of whatever funk the news got you in lately.

It’s not just the music that’s a whole heap of silliness – it is the videos too, all brightly coloured and serious about being unserious, while throwing wibbly vintage synth sounds around and big ol’ chugs.

This kind of pop will be enjoyed by po-faced indie fans too, as we hear enough New Wave in the mix to make it credible enough for lads with long fringes to dance with the girlies on a Friday night.

‘Bounce House’ is the newest one, and if you’re into the awkward pop of Caroline Polachek, you’ll like it. You might like it if you only listen to Indie Sleaze too. You’ll like it if you just like a sugar rush from your tunes.

Of course, Gelli Haha isn’t her real name, but we’re not interested in lifting the veil and telling you what that is, but this is someone who has been doing the rounds, working hard, and hails from Idaho, and now, seems to be getting traction to lighten the collective load.

Her website is worth a look too as the whole thing is bursting with life and daftness and this whole schtick is much welcomed, honestly. As it says, Gelli World is ‘somewhere between Studio 54 and Area 51’.

There’s a full album out in June, and get on it now, so you can show off to everyone that you were into her first.
