If you like your Lo-Fi rock ‘n’ roll to have flashes of early Kinks and Garage Punk, then you probably need to get on board with Australian group, The Gnomes, who like fuzzy guitars mixed with actual songwriting rather than simple yelling.
Now that we’re averse to yelling, mind you.
The band will release a new EP called ‘MORE’ on May 13th, and there’s a track you can hear from it right now called ‘Magic Man’, which has a lovely Monkeesish intro and some fun dead-eyed vocals for the acid fans.
“Magic Man is about this old man who lives next door to me who I’ve always known as The Wizard because I never knew his real name,” says Gnome Jay Millar. “However in the music video, the Magic Man is played by our friend Stu Anderson, who owns Singing Bird Studios in Frankston where we recorded the EP. He’s a legend of the local scene. We dragged him out to The You Yangs mountain ranges to shoot the clip, and he was coming off of a massive bender at the time. It was the perfect vibe, he smashed it.”
Go on then!
