If you’re into synthesiser music, someone coming at it with a fresh angle is always welcome – enter Manuela.
A new album is due in June, and the first track reminds us of Karen Dalton, if she was produced by Eno – how about that?!
The new record is called ‘Ultraviolet’ and follows some hot press and praise of the first LP, which was a DIY avant-pop affair, mixing ace chuggers with wonky rhythms. Go check ‘Supermarket’ after you’ve read this – it’s ace.
The second album is co-written with Nick McCarthy (who also helped with the knob twiddling alongside Polina Lapkovskaya) and in addition to that, the record also has guest vocals from the legendary Laetitia Sadier.
Manuela says of the imminent release, that “it grew – it’s very dear to me personally. This record is a living thing. It breathes and has emotions.”
We’re promised a body of work that is filled with experimentations with synths, as well as “1960s Chanson and the soaring orchestration of classic cinema.”
We’ll write more when we hear the full thing, but this is an album to keep an eye on.
