IBIBO SOUND MACHINE DON’T MESS AROUND

Ibibo Sound Machine do not mess around. Their take on Hi Life and Afrobeats, launching headlong into party electro is one of the most infectious sounds around right now, and you can imagine they’re a light under the ass of any festival that’s lucky enough to have them on the bill.

Well, they have a new song out called ‘Return To Sender’ which, mercifully, isn’t a cover of the Elvis track, but rather, a song about a vehicular accient.

Singer Eno Williams says this ripsnorter of a track is inspired after the steering wheel of her car jumped out of her very hands. She says: “Reflecting on this afterwards, it felt, from the perspective of traditional Nigerian thinking, to be a spiritual attack by unseen forces. The phrase ‘return to sender’ is a common response to such an event, invoking the rejection of any evil spirits that may have been looking to cause harm.”

Fun times ahead for anyone pressing play on this, so don’t dilly dally.
