Arab Strap – the thinking man’s Sleaford Mods* – have announced a brand new album which will be released in September and goes by the name of ‘Half-Told Tales’. And there’s a new single to listen to right now, which is “disco-metal”, right?
The lead track is called ‘You You You’ and is something of a wee dancer from the duo. Now, don’t expect Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton to be bursting with cheerfulness and it to sound like Donna Summer or anything like that – but it is uptempo.
The lyrics say: “I’ve got a hole in my shoe that lets in rain and another new lump in another vein – I’ve got pills for breakfast every day to keep my pains and fears at bay,” adding “I’ve got a portly paunch I just can’t shift – I feel undesired, dismissed, adrift. My get-up-and-go is long gone and the days keep dragging on… but I’ve got you, you, you, you.”
See? That’s a nice pay off after some hard realities of life being thrown your way. What is disco if not a music designed to lift us up a bit from the gloom of life?
Have a listen.
*we don’t really mean that – it was just a joke we couldn’t resist
