Gilla Band used to be called Girl Band, but felt weird about that, so rebranded. Fair enough. Well, they’re a sporadic bunch, so we’ve not had any music from them in a while, but obviously, we’re writing about them because that’s changed!
They’re back with a new, noisy thing called ‘Giraffe’, and amongst the noise, you’ll hear echoes of their love of techno and whatnot, which is super pleasing.
Frontman Dara Kiely says the song is about the way his brain works: “It can be a very scattered and sometimes lonely place. Feeling unloved and finding it difficult to articulate what I’m actually thinking. The song’s outro indirectly details a kind of confirmation that affection toward me does exist. While I appreciate it, I still find that hard to believe.”
