We think Daine is a pop singer – who really knows what anything is anymore, as genres are blurred to the point of mush these days – but we think that Daine sounds like she’s making pop music, and we’re always in the market for a fun new pop song.
‘PDQ’ is a dancy, good-time and she says that it is “a total embrace of failure, in all its glory,” which is a great thing to make a pop record about.
It is also “an optimistic love letter to oversensitivity. It explores the strength and softness it takes to show yourself to the world – the erosion of your boundaries – the courage to be publicly hated and feel it all. It is an ecstatic forgiveness of self and the world.”
Think of that ‘I am cringe – I am free’ goat meme – this has the carefree attitude of that. Daine seems like a cool kid, and this is a cool pop song to make you shake your backside.
Enjoy.
