Habibi Funk has a new sister label called Audible Beauty Records, and there’s two new records coming out that look ace!

Both albums are out on August 7th, looking at Malaysian jazz recordings from the 60s/70s and come from the archives of the national radio RTM.

Speaking about the new label:

“The new label was birthed out of a DJ trip to Malaysia and Indonesia a little more than a year ago. We decided to stay some days extra in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to dig for records and tapes and initially we were curious to learn about gambus, the local genre heavily influenced by Arabic music. The find that resonated most of us was this stack of LPs with generic sleeves produced by the Malaysian radio and their composers.”

“The sounds were wide but more than a few were all jazz and 95% of them were ungoogleable. We went down the rabbit hole and some month later we sat with the family of Alfonso Soliano and with Mr. Johari Salleh himself, two of the artist’s whose work resonated the most of us. We will tell the whole story of both of them in the weeks to come until the albums drop in early august. these records came out sooo beautiful again. Heavy gatefold sleeves and the 12 page booklets are glued in so it gives you a li ttle bit a feeling like a book.”

ABR001 is Tiga Trombone – Alfonso Soliano, a key cog in Malay jazz (check it out), and ABR002 is Johari Salleh – Jazz Dari Angkasapuri, a composer/arranger who shaped the sound of the RTM Orchestra (check it out)
