Television frontman Tom Verlaine is often dubbed as the guy who taught the punks about jazz, so with that, you know he had good taste in music.
Well, Verlaine is no longer with us, so his personal record collection – some 4,000 in number – is on sale.
As you might imagine, there’s some pretty high falutin stuff in there (and that’s a compliment, of course), spanning avant garde music, jazz, experimental bits, garage punk, psychedelic rock, and loads more!
There’s also Verlaine’s personal copies of Television’s debut single ‘Little Johnny Jewel’ and ‘Marquee Moon’.
We’ve had a quick look, and we like the idea of owning his copies of records by The Sonics and The 13th Floor Elevators.
The first clutch of vinyl became available through Discogs last week (sorry we were so late on this), and more is going on sale for those lucky enough to live near Academy Records’ Banker Street store in Brooklyn.
Any records left over will be added to Discogs, so obviously, keep checking there.
All sales come with a certificate of authenticity confirming that the record came from Verlaine’s collection.
You can check out the collection here.
