Before he transformed himself into Ziggy Stardust and took over the alternative rock scene, David Bowie was trying to position himself as a mod-face about town, making beat records in tight trousers.

Well, these years (which produced some serviceable work, honestly) are being looked at on a new set which will be released on September 18th, focusing on his work with legendary producer Shel Talmy.

In fact, the compilation of remastered and rejigged stuff is literally called ‘The Shel Talmy Recordings’, who of course famously worked with The Kinks and The Who, amongst others. Of course, it is worth pointing out that Bowie was going by the name Davie Jones at this point, so don’t be expecting any of that glam stuff, okay?

The release will include Dave’s collaborations with Jimmy Page and pianist Nicky Hopkins and, if all these words are just making you wonder what these songs sound like, then the previously unreleased ‘I Want Your Love’ is available here.
