Tom Waits made a surprising return with Massive Attack lately on a track called ‘Boots On The Ground’, which made for an intense, insular listen about some of the global bullshit going on at the minute.
Well, he’s back some more, releasing the full version of his spoken-word track ‘The Fly’, which of course, you can listen to below if you’re not interested in what we’ve got to say about it, which is fair enough.
This track was the flip side to the Massive Attack track, and he’s being pitch-black funny on it, which he’s prone to doing occasionally, right?
Why is it funny? Well, it is a tribute to a fly that was in his house for a bit.
“You have no house, well you have mine – you have no real friends, stay away from the wine. House fly go to sleep, say goodbye – no-one will weep when you die.”
“You’re handsome and thin, you try to blend in, you bastard, sitting around all over the place. You’ll be here even after the bomb – why don’t you go out and eat cat shit with your mom?”
You can listen to it here, and seeing as this is a lyric video, you can read the words along too, so have at it!
