Tinashe’s original mixtapes and self-produced music showed an absolutely world class talent and with ‘2 On’, she looked all-set for a lengthy and brilliant career. Then, stupid record companies and management got in the way, and it looked like we were all set to lose her to the ether.

The duet with Chris Brown looked like something she was pushed into, and it felt reductive and bad and, whatever was going on, Tinashe decided to wrestle back control of her career and start acting on her own instincts again, and it paid off handsomely.

In 2026, it really looks like she’s in the form of her life, throwing out hits and viral smashes left, right, and centre. She’s not easing up after the releases of ‘Too Easy’ and ‘Crash Out’, and the latest track from the imminent ‘Popstar’ LP is called ‘Melatonin’ and it is a dance-R&B banger and a half!
