Charley Crockett has been getting media inches this week, thanks to a spat with Jack White. Sure, he’s a well-known artist in country circles, but he’s been getting rock press thanks to having a pop at Jack White, to which White returned serve.

Whatever. What is this spat about?

Well, Crockett said in a statement that he’d booted a band off his tour for their Satanic imagery. The band in question are called Twin Temple, so instead of looking at the bickering with Jack White, let’s see if there’s any clues to ‘Satanic imagery’ from Twin Temple instead, and if this whole thing could’ve been avoided.

For starters, Twin Temple self-describe their sound as “Satanic doo-wop”. Hmmm. They’re influenced by old rock ‘n’ roll, and have frequently incorporated their practice of Satanism as part of their schtick. They might mean it, they might not. It’s on record though. It’s all very *throws up devil horns.*

In fact, since 2019, they’ve indulged in a good bit of Satanic stuff – on stage, they’ve said that they met (they’re a couple, for the record) in a past life when they were burned at the stake together in 1666. Triple sixes! Burned at the stake! It’s looking entirely avoidable here, Crockett.

Anyway, they released a debut album called… well… ‘Twin Temple (Bring You Their Signature Sound….Satanic Doo Wop)’, and in 2021, they released a single called ‘Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy!’ They sound great, honestly. Anyway, nut-job Alex Jones took to his outlets to brand the group as the ’embodiment of pure evil’, which is a great co-sign, frankly. This led to people sending them bibles to their houses after they got doxxed and, of course, there’s no hate like Christian love, and they got some death threats thrown at them too.

2025, they released ‘God Is Dead’. Pretty unequivocal stuff.

Jack White offered Twin Temple a support slot (feels right) and Crockett took shots at him, saying he lost ‘respect’. White replied with: “I never said nothing about this young buck before but since he’s trying to drag me into this here rodeo again, here’s my official response to Cowboy Charley’s accusations,” before sharing the full lyrics to the ‘Rappin’ Duke’.

Very funny.

And so, with hangings in their videos, literal full frontal nudity, sacrifice, priests getting murdered, songs of infidelity and all manner of hilarious unholy stuff, when ol’ Crockett clarifies by saying ‘uh no! I never said that!’ and adds some mealy mouthed ‘I just didn’t think it would suit an all ages show, actually’, at what point did any of the aforementioned fit the brief? Did you only just realise or something?

With all that in mind, Charley Crockett either liked Twin Temples and their act and chickened out like a massive wuss, or he’s really stoopid and didn’t think or, worse still, he’s given in to corporate pressures.
