WE NEED TO STOP GIVING WEALTHY PEOPLE OUR MONEY FOR NOTHING

Beyoncé is getting a whole lot of heat which she absolutely won’t take any notice of, because she’s Beyoncé. Why would she? She charges whatever rates she likes.

What’s this about? Well, you may have seen that she’s selling a pretty basic wooden box. It’s called the ‘Bey Keeper’ collector’s box and it’s yours for $948.01.

Why the weird price tag? Why not just call it a grand and be done with it? Well, this item is part of the 20th-anniversary celebration of her 2006 album B’Day, and her actual birthday is 9/4/81 (that’s in the American version where the month comes first, if you’re wondering).

For that money, you might expect some records and artwork inside it, but no – it’s a simple, pine box with some logos on it. Of course, the fact it is limited to 500 will mean it has resale value, but if you’re a fan,  that invariably means you’ll pay more in the resale market as some shark-eyed reseller gets their hands on it first.

It probably already sold out, so what does Beyoncé care? However, the criticisms of being greedy abound this week, given variously the price of tickets for her shows and the rest.

She could have charged $94.81 and sold more of them (it’s only pine, like) and made her money, but no.

Either way, we should really stop entertaining things like this, and leave these items in a warehouse, because that’d send a message to these artists. However, stans will always drive the prices up for the rest of us.
