If you like Throbbing Gristle – Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Carter, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson – you’ll be glad to learn that they appeared 50 years ago (on 3 September 1976 to be exact, if you’re thinking of putting it in your phone’s calendar for some reason) and, to mark the occasion, a really special event at the ICA has been announced.

TG50 is a celebration of the Gristle and it is taking place at the ICA, London 50 years after their live performance on 18 October 1976, as part of their Prostitution exhibition at the gallery.

If you don’t know about it, the exhibition and performance caused a real hubbub in the tabloids, with headlines like “MP’s fury at porn palace” in the Daily Mirror and “Bust-up at Gallery of Porn” in the Daily Express – Tory MP Nicholas Fairbairn even saw fit to stand up in Parliament and accuse the group of being the “wreckers of civilisation”.

You know damn well the band will have been THRILLED at that. You’d make merch, wouldn’t you?

Anyway, this event will be marked on 18th October 2026 with a day of screenings, talks and of course, music. This is a cool chance for fans to congregate together at the ICA and roll back the years and share their love of the group.

And speaking of merch, yep, there’ll be some of that too, exclusive to this event.

And the best thing is that this event will be free, with separate paid tickets available for the cinema screenings and talk. It’ll be worth the stub, because The Quietus’ Luke Turner will be talking to Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti. For tickets etc, click here.
