If you’re fans of music that harks back to the golden sounds of the ’70s, you probably have Sylvie on your radar. If you don’t, they’re headed-up by Ben Schwab who used to be a member of retro-poppers, Drugdealer. It’s all very West Coast and lovely, and he went off doing his own thing, recording stuff under the Sylvie name.

Just in case you missed this lot the first time around, you really need to hear ‘Falls On Me’ – I really breezy and utterly gorgeous number.

Schwab kicked off things with his band after finding some demos of his dad’s in a closet, which were recorded in 1975.

Well, there’s a new song and a new LP due, recorded mostly at home, which feels very right given the birth of the first album. The lead single from it is called ‘Rina’, and we’re picking up a strong whiff of The Band’s ‘Music From The Big Pink’, as well as a bunch of ace Laurel Canyon records too.

It is a version of a song that Schwab’s father John originally wrote way back when, and the press release, Ben Schwab says: “‘Rina’ is an all-time favourite. It was tough to record because I wanted to honour the original my dad wrote while bringing something new to it. ‘Rina’ reminds me of the beauty and strength found in people the world overlooks.”
