Look, we know it stinks when you liken one band to another, but if music listeners were all ‘I’ll listen to everything thrown at me and I’ll give it all an equal chance because I’M REALLY COOL!’ (which no-one is), we wouldn’t have to do it. Fact is, like a lot of good songs, you need a hook.
And so, to a new band called Deary who describe themselves as ‘dream pop’ and will remind you of ace bands like Cocteau Twins, and they probably aren’t insulted by such a comparison. They’re new-new and from London, and if you’re sold already, you can head straight to their Bandcamp page and start throwing them a couple of quid.
It’s got all that ethereal, shimmering goodness that you want from dream-pop/shoegaze, but in this instance, it’s a little more groovy and less swirling heavy psychedelics. You might even say Trip Hop, even that wasn’t a dirty(ish) word. Fact is, it’s as heavy on the pop as it is the dream, and that’s refreshing.
Here’s a YouTube video to get stuck into as well. Keep an eye on this lot. They might be the perfect antidote to all the angular rock music that’s doing the rounds.
