Look, we were all set to write and long love letter to Fonteyn’s utterly perfect LP ‘Trip The Light Fantastic’, even though it’s not a new release, because it really is one of the most wonderful records you’re likely to hear.
The reason we were hesitating is purely selfish, and that was because we didn’t have our own copy on vinyl, and we’d asked if she had any down the back of the sofa we could buy, and we found out there would be another run down the pressing plant.
Frankly, we didn’t want to tell you about it in the event of missing out again.
Well, we’ve now given our card details and have, as the hipsters say, secured the bag, so now the love letter is back on.
And if there’s any trust in our words, you can exit THEPOPCORPS right now, and click this link, and grab your own copy.
Because on the LP, you’ll find some of the most achingly gorgeous slices of West Coast pop that’ll ever grace your ears.
In ‘Savannah’ and ‘Darlin (How Do I Let You Know?)’, you’ve got swirling, kaleidoscopic pop perfection that, if Fonteyn was around in 1974, she’d be a millionaire.
For fans of Carole King, Todd Rundgren, McCartney, 10cc, The Carpenters, Andrew Gold, Weyes Blood, Beach Boys, and all that all-time great stuff, you’ll be rewarded with a playful, loving, energetic, melodic pop album that will see you becoming the right kind of obsessed before you’re through with Side A.
There’s an optimism to the music that will thwart any po-faced miserablists, and it radiates through every track and, just, good lord we love this album so, so, SO MUCH!
This is exactly the kind of artist that we should be making into superstars, and while us humble fans of AM radio can only achieve so much, we can do our bit by playing these glorious songs over and over again.
It is never too late to find your new favourite, and what a precious jewel we have in Fonteyn.
Here’s that link to grab your copy again. Do it before it’s too late.
